Hey Everyone-

I was referred to you by Vandretti on another board. I am from Indianapolis in the US. However as part of my college degree, I am currently working abroad in the Netherlands about 15 minutes from Maastricht. I am thinking about going to this race (and others before I leave) because it is about an hour drive away from me. However, I haven't been very successful in finding information about logistics. Does anyone have any advice for getting to and from the track? Is there decent parking? Is there a train station that is close to there? I am probably going to drive in early Sunday because I can't find any reasonable hotels in the area.

Hi, any friend of Vandretti is a friend of ours! Welcome to the forum. As for a trainstation, the closest would be Liege! That is still a far stretch away from the track. By car you just drive to liege, then follow the highway towards Verviers, then follow the directions towards Malmedy, leave the highway at exit to the N640, this road will take you straight into the village, at the roundabout, take a left turn, then follow the signs for parking P1, this will cost about 5 euro and is next to the main entrance.

DFH is not camping, but in the youth hostel at malmedy! You should join on the sat. night at the restaurant next door, good food, cheap belgian beer. I can recommend the Rochefort, ask JPC how it was!!

How far from the circuit. Only been to Spa once before. I'f I'm coming for a beer up and need to travel, I'll need someones car to sleep in :D (I'm not doing the driving there)

BTW: One good side of the credit crunch and having old boys as drivers, I might be at Le Mans after all - yet to confirm, but the one car we were going to race at croft that weekend is likely to be out due to a driver injury! :)

maybe there is still room at the youth hostel?

there is a group of around 12 DfH on track saturday and sunday, including Nopanic

would be great to meet you again Chris,

IRL&24Fan: try to find us on the sunday, we will be on top of Eau Rouge next to the bar, easy to find us probably since we are all wearing our DfH orange hats and shirts,

You can sleep in my van if you want (and sneak in for brekkies the next morning), but I don't know what time you HAVE to be back at the circuit :|

Thanks for the help. I'll definitely try to come by. I also really want to take some pictures while I'm there. Is it pretty easy to get around the track? Also, how early can I park there?

There is a footpath along the whole track. To walk around once, count on 2,5 hours of walking and taking pics at several sites. The catchfences are F1 style so, really high! It is almost impossible to get pics without having to shoot through one. So not what you are used to in the states! Parking is from 7 am onwards, I am aiming at arriving there at nine or so.

I'm only reporting, so in effect working for myself :) so doesn't really matter when I return to circuit, as long as I'm there for the British GT race.

Who gives a crap about autograps!!

Just sleep in, you know it makes sense :D

I am just getting a regular ticket, not paddock acces, 45 euro for 1 day is a bit much me thinks. Unless I can buy a black market ticket at the gates again!

Oh Roy, just wear long sleaves and walk in the centre of the group. Like the man at the gate is gonna notice 12 or 13 paddock passes

I had a great time at the race yesterday. I apologize for not stopping by, but I ended up walking around the track twice taking pictures. This ended up taking the majority of the day. By the time I got done, I didn't feel like walking back to Eau Rouge. However, thanks for everyones help.

Switching gears, I am also considering going to Le Mans in June. Any travel suggestions for this?

If you did not aquire a camping ticket yet, do not go by car. You could do a bus trip, they leave very early on saturday, you will be there in time for the start, sleep along the track if you can, or just don't sleep at all, after the race the buss will take you back home! www.gptravel.nl or www.rtltravel.nl should have some information for you.
