Through facebook came the news that Jim van Pelt aka Vandretti, passed away yesterday. He visited Le Mans with his brother in 2007, and they have been the Canadian chapter of DfH ever since. They also pulled of the stickering up of the Bourdais car with our Booohdais stickers after the Doornbos/Bourdais incidents.

My condolances and sympathy goes out to his friends and family.

Thanks for posting, LT.

Very sad indeed, my sympathy to his brother, his wife and the rest of his family. May he find a great track up there with Gilles, Ayrton, Juan Manuel and likes showing him a great race.

What sad news. I remember chatting to him on the scaffold at Turn 10 a few years back. A lovely guy who will be missed by many. My sympathy goes out to his family.

On behalf of the Van Pelt family I would like to express how deeply we all appreciate the kind words and the wonderful friendships my father shared. He would often come home with many pictures and point out who was who and stories of each person to me when I came to see them after their trips. He so very much enjoyed his jaunts to his races and the relationships he shared along the way. The night of his service my brother came home and put my father's "drinking for Holland" tshirt on and honoured him along with many relatives (vangio included) as my father would have wanted him to....with a beer, a scotch, a fire, and stories with family....because nothing was more important than family.

Sincerely
Rennie

Such sad news. My sincere condolances to Vandretti's family. My thought are with you. He was a special man, with a great sense of humor. I distinctly remember a practical joke he pulled on me, telling me he was going to punch my teeth out for insulting his wife. When we actually met, we had a good laugh about it and a long chat about anything and nothing, he was a great person to be around. He will be missed!

Somehow I feel that 'resting in peace' is not really something Jim would like to do :drink:

Having been offline from this forum because of work, I just read this terrible news. It comes to me as a shock, as I remember him to be a very vital and enthousiast friend of Drinking for Holland and races in general. His humor was fantastic and that's what I will always remember.

My thoughts go out to his family and close friends.
